people suggest RAM problems .. The drive (Seagate Baracuda) was purchased last month, and came with a 100gb partition, unknown why. Upgrading to Windows 7 Pro 64bit as well... I *think* I've worked through it, but wanted to share my data in case it helps anyone else figure it out.
